The TOEIC® Listening and Reading test was created in response to the business world’s demand for a reliable and objective test of English language proficiency in the context of working in an international environment.

The TOEIC Listening and Reading test is designed to assess your proficiency in using the language in real life, understanding conversations in the workplace, and connecting information to a variety of real-world texts. Test questions are based on real-life scenarios, such as conversations in the office, during meetings, negotiations or business trips. The test is used by companies, government and academic institutions to assess the language skills of potential employees or students, as well as by job seekers who want to formally confirm their level of English proficiency with a certificate.

TOEIC Listening and Reading test results are recognized by more than 14,000 companies, corporations and organizations worldwide.

The TOEIC Listening and Reading test lasts 120 minutes (the test session including the administration part is about 150 minutes in total). The test itself is divided into two parts: Listening and Reading.

  • Listening – contains 100 choice questions and lasts 45 minutes.
  • Reading – contains 100 choice questions and lasts 75 minutes.

The test score is expressed in points on a scale of 10 to 990, and the difficulty of the questions is varied to accurately determine the level of English proficiency at which the test taker is. The advantage of the exam is that candidates do not have to declare their level of language proficiency before taking the test. It is the result of the test that determines the level of proficiency of the test taker, depending on the number of points he/she received.

In addition to the certificate, the test taker receives a Score Report, which describes the language competency along with an interpretation of the score. The report includes reference to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) scale from level A1 to C1.

Official certificates are issued within 20 – 30 working days from the date of the exam (4 – 10 days if the paid Express Scoring option is chosen). The digital score report is available in the online account of the test taker within 10 – 15 working days from the date of the exam or 2 – 5 working days (in case of Express Scoring). The certificate is valid for 2 years from the date of the exam. In practice, this means that after two years, ETS will not issue a duplicate certificate or officially confirm the test results.
